In ÇEMTAŞ R&D Center, the First R&D Center in Turkey's Qualified Steel Sector, simulation programs, vacuum induction melting unit, sample rolling system, and fully-equipped metallographic and mechanical characterization facilities are used to develop new steel grades.
ÇEMTAŞ has been conducting R&D projects in collaboration with universities from the 1990s to the present day. These projects have also been supported by institutions such as TÜBİTAK-TEYDEB (Technology and Innovation Funding Programmes Directorate) and TTGV (Technology Development Foundation of Turkey). In addition, collaborative application efforts for European Union support are also being made.
ÇEMTAŞ, within the scope of Law No. 5746 on 'Support for Research and Development Activities,' was registered on November 26, 2015, by the Ministry of Science, Industry, and Technology as Turkey's 222nd R&D Center, but first in the field of qualified steel production.
Located on a 1402 m² area on the ÇEMTAŞ campus, the R&D Center includes 'Offices,' 'Modeling and Simulation,' 'Casting and Heat Treatment,' and 'Mechanical Testing and Characterization' units.
Research and development activities are based on customer expectations and cover topics such as new product development, cost reduction, process improvement, energy efficiency, contribution to scientific publications, and patenting. Collaboration between universities and industries is particularly emphasized in projects. As a result of project work carried out since the 1990s, applications for 26 articles and papers, including 3 in the SCI index, have been made and published. Within the mentioned period, 18 master's theses have been published as a result of the work conducted at ÇEMTAŞ. One doctoral thesis is still ongoing. There are 3 patent applications and 5 utility model applications in the ongoing research process. Three utility model applications have been registered.
In product development studies, after alloy design, prototype production is carried out. Prototype production is performed by casting and rolling in the pilot production system developed by ÇEMTAŞ.
